After the Preliminary Steps, Do Your Job Research

Now that you have narrowed down your options to just a few jobs rather than a long list, it is time for you to start doing some thorough research. It is not necessary that you do intense research from the very beginning, but you will find that it will become pivotal after a certain point.

One of the best possible ways for you to conduct detailed research is to find and meet individuals who work in the industries that you are interested in. Observe them. Find out exactly what their job entails, discover if they enjoy it, and ask them all of the questions that you have.

Learn about how they managed to obtain the career that they do have, and see if they have any advice to give you on how you can do the same.

An individual may very well have tips for you based off of what they would have done differently, in addition to what they did well.

Listen carefully to every thing that they have to tell you, and cherish the insight that they are giving you. There is nothing more valuable than hearing a first hand account of a job that you may or may not potentially pursue in the near future. You may actually find that your initial impression of the job was not actually as accurate as you thought it to be.

In fact, there is even a chance that you may lose interest in a certain industry, or that you may find one vocation to be substantially less appealing than you thought it was. This is perfectly okay, and it is quite common. It is much better for you to find these things out now, than to discover them when you have dedicated so much of your time and energy towards acquiring the job.

Because of these facts, it is very important that you do your best to meet multiple people in each industry that you are considering. Make sure that you do everything that you can in order to get to know them, and take advantage of any conversations that you have the opportunity to have. I guarantee that you will find out information that will wind up being very useful later on.

Having a short, simple conversation with someone can end up saving you years of regret and misery. A poor career choice truly has the ability to eat away at an individual's happiness, and you do not want to suffer from this, or even risk the possibility of it. Conversely, a short and simple conversation also has the ability to send you down a completely new career path that you had not previously given much consideration to.

If you do not talk to individuals in new and exciting industries, you may never find the niche that you are really supposed to be in. These conversations can open up doors that you never even knew existed, and they can also help unlock all of the answers to your career related questions.

It's amazing how a 5-minute discussion has the potential to lead you towards a substantially more fulfilling and rewarding life than you would have had otherwise. Allow this amazing catalyst to transform your perspective and give you additional insight!

If you happen to be friends with an individual who already has a career that you are interested in, even better. This is an invaluable connection that you should try to ensure remains strong! Knowing people in a specific industry is a fantastic form of networking, and it can prove to be useful for the entire length of your career.

If you don’t personally know anyone in an industry, and you would like to change that, there are many ways to accomplish this goal.

Find out which of your friends and acquaintances happen to have connections in your chosen industry, and discover if it is possible for them to potentially introduce you. Ask them to provide you with contact information, and then try to get a hold of them either through email or a phone conversation.

Or, if you do not find this idea to be too appealing, you can instead choose to approach individuals directly and ask them for their contact information.

Business cards are great things to keep a hold of, and they almost always prove to be incredibly useful.

You can use them in order to make a coffee or lunch date with the person fairly after you meet them, or you can just hang on to them in case you ever need them for future use. Keep in mind that many of these people may be incredibly busy, and some of them will most likely be difficult to get a hold of.

Do not let this discourage you, and always remember that it is worth your effort and time to speak with them. It may just take a little bit longer than you would like for you to finally have a conversation with them.
