Striving for the Empowerment of Individuals All Across the World

History has shown us that when individuals feel empowered, they are substantially more likely to act morally “right”. They are more likely to make their decisions based off of compassion, and they are more likely to make decisions that lead directly to a healthier and more sustainable planet and society.

In contrast, when individuals feel that they are disenfranchised, they then have a tendency to make decisions that do not reflect honorable values. They blame others for their problems and mistakes, and they do whatever they possibly can to gain power, control, and leverage over others in order to meet all of their wants and needs.

Take, for example, poverty. Poverty truly hurts all individuals, including those that are wealthy. If a society is made up of some individuals who have substantial power and unlimited opportunities, and some who conversely have nothing, it is an unstable institution that will eventually fall.

When large numbers of people that make up a society are not empowered, numerous problems in turn occur. These people start to solely focus on meeting their basic needs, such as paying rent and affording food. This takes their focus away from other important topics, such as rallying for social causes, expressing their passion for certain issues, showcasing their creativity, serving the world, and, naturally, achieving their highest potential.

All of these things inevitably lead to the world becoming a better place, and without people proactively pursuing them, reformation will never successfully take place. Rather than being focused on making ends meet, individuals should instead be focused on giving back to the communities in which they reside.

In order to further highlight this point, I have included a copy of one of my favorite illustrations:

Maslow's

When an individual has all of their physiological, safety, social, and self-esteem needs completely taken care of, he or she then reaches the point in his or her life where they are able to focus on achieving self-actualization. Once they start to accomplish self-actualization, they are then able to truly give back to the world. They approach the point of their life where they can bring about healing, reformation, and transformation.

This is an amazing life stage to be at, and for many individuals, it can be difficult to reach. But, if more people were given the opportunity to reach and accomplish self-actualization, I have no doubt that the world would be in a much better state than it is now. In this scenario, true social change would be allowed to occur, and we, as a society, would finally be able to make dramatic progress in many different areas.

If you feel that your calling is to empower people in regards to different issues, here are some of the careers that you have the option of pursuing: financial planner, financial coach, financial advisor, business coach, life coach, counselor, workshop leader, teacher, author, journalist, dance instructor, dancer, marketer for good social causes, consultant, or an employee for an organization that is devoted to empowering individuals in meaningful and honorable ways.
