Webengage

Webengage Review

If you're ready for advanced marketing techniques to turn website visitors into actual leads, then Webengage would like to help you with that…for a fee, of course!

Based on the principle that attracting visitors isn't enough- you have to understand them in order to sell to them…Webengage borrows concepts from the big players in the game of internet convincing and selling.

There is no affiliate program- just a chance to purchase their services. They say it's coming soon, however.

The Company & Founder

Webengage is run by ex employees of burrp, an Indian directory site that offered restaurant reviews and other local recommendation stuff. It got acquired, and a group broke off in 2010 to form Webklipper, the company behind the Webengage suite of products.

The 2 co-founders, as well as many on the team, are code jockeys with lots of experience in all kinds of things relevant to running Webengage, like…

  • product startups
  • databases
  • software sales
  • javascript hacking
  • UX design
  • Android
  • PHP

In all, there are 10 seemingly very competent employees of Webengage, very professional backgrounds with tons of relevant experience…except marketing- not sure who does that.

The Products

There are 3 parts to the suite of products offered with a Webengage membership. They are:

  1. Surveys. Collect information from your customers and gain deeper insights into who they are and what makes them tick. Use this information to fine tune your marketing efforts.
  2. Feedback. This is like a customer support module, very easy to implement. Ask for feedback at any point during your visitors' web experience on your site. Use it to funnel support tickets to the right people at your company. Get support ticket stats & reports, then download them into Excel.
  3. Notification. I guess the best way to describe these is that they're like little “popups” that can pop in or slide in while the website visitor is looking around. They inform of special deals, coupon codes, or even ask someone not to leave when they click away from your website.

Integration and setup is easy- simply install a tiny bit of code on your website, and you're ready to tailor your products and make them look the way you want.

For example, on a survey, you'll create you form, collect the responses, then have a ball staring at real-time stats and making reports.

Pricing

The cheapest you can get Webengage is $29 per month per website. You get:

  • 1,000 survey responses
  • 300 feedback responses
  • 1,000 notification clickthroughs
  • 100,000 notification views
  • SSL Support
  • Customizable Forms
  • Multi-Question Surveys
  • Basic Layouts
  • Javascript API

Other plans:

Standard: $99 per month per website.

  • everything in Basic but more of it
  • more theme options
  • enhanced targeting options
  • customizable messages

Premium: $259 per month per website.

  • everything in Standard but more of it
  • customizable email templates
  • visitor sampling
  • leave intent targeting
  • Google Analytics integration

Enterprise: so much you have to contact them for a quote

  • everything in Premium but WAY more of it
  • white-labeling options (put your own brand on it)
  • search keyword targeting
  • etc etc

You'll have to be a Premium plan member to get to talk to anyone on the telephone for support. Enterprise members get a dedicated account manager and all kinds of other helpful stuff.

The Compensation Plan

Coming soon, the say. For the time being, there's a handy guide for managers to sell the product to their bosses, or whoever has purchasing power and decision making authority where they work.

A few examples…

To convince a product manager:Tell them they'll get instant feedback on the new design.

To convince someone in marketing: Tell them they can create deals that are targeted very narrowly, matching product with customer.

The Verdict

I'm going to say that although you can usually find this stuff for free or at least way cheaper when not nicely bundled like this…it still represents an attractive suite of products for the website owner trying to make a buck. It's not your average entrepreneur that knows how to find all these things so readily accessible and ready to go, so there should be a nice market for this.

Looks like they're trying to see just how great the market will be, since there's no affiliate program at this time. Well, if they need our help, we're always here!
