Perfectly Posh

Perfectly Posh

Perfectly Posh is a direct competitor to Avon and Mary Kay Cosmetics, both of which are also sold via hostess parties, websites, and traveling sales forces.  Is Perfectly Posh the new Avon?  Let's find out.

The Company

The perfectlyposh.com domain was registered eight years ago but on the website Ann Dalton (CEO & co-founder) talks about having nothing going on 2 years ago.  I'm gonna take a gander here and say she bought the domain at a pretty hefty price from someone who owned it before her.  The WayBackMachine does show a Perfectly Posh social selling website was present in 2011.

GlassDoor has reviews written by consultants, who report they like their CEO (Ms. Dalton) but don't like the flat $8 shipping, which cuts into profits.

The Product

It's easy to get the marketing approach here: heavy use of the word “girls”, lots of retro fonts, hairstyles, and fashions, and polka dots everywhere you turn.  This is one girly company that aims a direct hit against “fancy” department store cosmetics.

The products are designed to be fun, not impressive.  Useful and effective, not dramatic and scientific.  The website says it all, “Everything under $25”.

Products are made in the USA, no animal testing, and many vegan products.  With a motto that reads “It's a product line that's designed to pamper and nothing else.”, it's clear to see the target market is your no-nonsense, very down-to-earth “home girl”.  This is not for your typical urbanite high-powered career woman.  This stuff is for girls.

The Business Opportunity

As I just said, this stuff is for very down to earth girls who tend to shy away from spending a lot on cosmetics and beauty products and who don't get too much into new, scientifically advanced ingredients and who aren't worried too much about wrinkles yet.

So, unless you have that young, housewifey (or at least not too career-obsessed) market cornered, the business opp might not be your best bet.  Plus, the rewards are heavy on the product and light on the cash.

Hosting a party will net you product credits and 1/2 priced items.  Host it online, at your home, or go on the road and hit up offices or friends' houses.

As a consultant, move through the ranks to get higher commissions and bonuses.  Start out with 20% weekly commission and once you hit $1000 total personal volume, that shoots up to 25%.  Then, once you hit $500 per month in PV, you'll start earning on your downlines, at a rate of 1%-2%, then on up to 6% depending on your rank and your downlines' ranks.

Once team volume hits $6000 per month and your PV remains at $500/month, you reach “Premier” level if you can also mange to get 4 sponsored Post associates on your frontline (2nd generation, where you're the first).  Becoming premier means 6% on your own personal monthly sales, 6% on your second generation, 5% on the next, and so on.

Incentives include vacations, prizes, shopping spree, Posh Points, and cash.  There's an annual convention, leadership events, and other events (“Day Away”), for which you get points for attendance.  You also get Posh Points for your PV.

Posh Points can be used to shop for tickets to shows, appliances, jewelry, bags, and other things.

The Verdict

Many of the rewards in the compensation plan involved Posh Points, which can be used for shopping but as far as I could tell from the website, could not be redeemed for cash.  Need to pay the rent?  Better get some downline commissions going or you'll have to wait until at least your three month anniversary with Perfectly Posh, when it's possible to earn $500.  At the six-month mark, you can earn $1000…both are presented to you at a ceremony at a later date*.

The emphasis here is on product- you get more for yourself when you sell more.  The big question is: can you  use your Posh Points for wholesale purchases?

The products emphasize natural ingredients more than Avon does, and the packaging is more youthful than Avon.  However, it seems unlikely that you could make a fortune here, but of course you never know.

*To earn these, you must get 1 new recruit + 2000 PV, 2 new recruits + 1500PV or 3 new recruits + 1000 PV each month for 3 or six months in a one-year period.
