The Psychology Behind Success

One of the Gandhi’s most infamous quotations is that we must “be the change” that we want to see in the world. Chances are that you have heard this quotation at some point or another, and have managed to become quite familiar with it.

All too often we simply focus on our personal actions and strategies rather than how we are actually living our lives. When we instead choose to focus on ‘being’ and start controlling our attitudes and perspectives, we suddenly have an entire new approach to both business and life.

We want to go over how to get and stay ahead in the fast-paced world of success and results.

Our actions will then in turn change as well, and everything that we do will suddenly become more effective and efficient. The best way for an individual to naturally change and influence his or her actions is to simply change his or her mindset first. Once you alter how you look at things, everything will suddenly follow suit.

As I have stated earlier in this book, I personally believe that 90 percent of success is made up of an individual’s psychological mindset, and the last 10 percent is simply made up of an individual’s technical skills and talents. This 90 percent includes focus, determination, attitude, confidence, and what I have referred to as your inner “mental game”. It essentially encompasses all of the different aspects of your personality and perspective, rather than your physical skills.

Unfortunately, most individuals do not focus on cultivating this 90 percent. They instead focus approximately 90 percent of their energy towards working on their technical skills, and this has been found to not be particularly useful. Their beliefs, attitudes, and perspectives may limit and hold them back, yet they are not actively working on fixing those. I am by no means saying that technical skills are not an important aspect of success, but I am saying that they are not the only things that we should be focusing on.

No matter how great our technical skills are, if we do not address the psychological aspects of success as well, we will only be able to access a fraction of our potential. Cultivating the psychological level is what unlocks so many doors and helps to make so many opportunities available. It is important, however, to make sure that you do not let your technical skills fall by the wayside, either.

Maintaining a proper balance between these two things is key, and many people greatly struggle with this aspect. It is something that you should proactively work on throughout your entire career, as the importance of it will never vanish for as long as you are in the business industry.

I am not the only one who supports the theory that at least 90 percent of success is psychological. Many other successful businessmen agree, and some studies have even been done in order to help prove it. As you know, I have worked with hundreds of different clients over the years. I have helped each one of them to troubleshoot their problems, and I have helped them determine and solve whatever was getting in the way of their success.

A majority of these clients mainly struggled with one or more of the keys areas of business, including but not limited to marketing, bookkeeping, sales, delegation, time management, etc. But, almost always, their key breakthroughs proved to be solely psychological. As soon as they shifted their beliefs, attitudes, and perspectives, things started to almost immediately change for them. Doors that they never even knew existed started to open, and new opportunities came from nowhere.

Potential clients started presenting themselves in droves, and they life goals finally were accomplishable. Essentially, their entire lives and careers became transformed in the blink of an eye. Nothing this revolutionary had ever happened to them before, especially regarding such small changes.
